  1. Who Can Apply? Elementary School students aged 7-14 years old, who are play a stringed instrument and read music at the intermediate level
  2. Does the orchestra provide musical instruments? No, you must bring your instrument
  3. Is there a fee for the program? Yes, there is a $10 registration fee and $100 program fee to be paid in two instalments (October and January)
  4. Does the orchestra have a scholarship? Yes, depending on audition results you may qualify for a full scholarship to participate.
  5. What happens after registration? A short audition will be held to
    determine your child‘s playing and reading level for placement in the orchestra
  6. What are the benefits of joining an orchestra? In an orchestra children develop additional musical skills like ensemble playing, following the conductor, playing in a section and listening for blend and intonation.
    • In addition to musical skills children in orchestra have additional benefits: 
      • Teamwork: The orchestra coordinates individual abilities into one central effort. It gives the children the feeling of group loyalty, motivation and the essential feeling of belonging.
      • Discipline: The orchestra teaches responsibility-emphasis is based on following instructions and teaches the child respect for music and group effect.
      • Concentration: Attention to detail is vital to all education-related projects. Concentration built in the orchestra often carries over the other areas, improving study habits and increasing intellectual understanding and curiosity.
      • Personal Achievement: Recognizing, meeting and overcoming a challenge may be the single most rewarding experience of all. Orchestra participation offers that opportunity by providing a learning experience where growth and fulfillment can occur.
      • Appreciation: Orchestra participation encourages respect and appreciation for aesthetic values and the beauty of the music created.
