Our history
Speakers at the Canadian Symposium II on El Sistema at McGill University (November 2011) stressed the need for a strategic response to the many social challenges facing children in distinct, marginalized or underserved communities in Quebec.
In response to Symposium II recommendations, École FACE School’s music educator Theodora Stathopoulos spearheaded the three-year, Sistema-inspired pilot project Viva!Sistema. The Viva!Sistema music program operated as an after school initiative directed and controlled by the FACE School Foundation and administered/implemented by the Quebec Music Educators Association (Evaluation Report 2012-2015/ Risk, Lorenzino, Stathopoulos). In May 2015 the Viva!Sistema program completed its original three-year mandate.
